Hello! My name is Sophie Schemmel, and I currently teach kindergarten at Olin Elementary. I joined the Olin team in 2018 as the special education teacher and enjoyed three wonderful years in that role before moving into kindergarten. Both positions have been such rewarding experiences!

In addition to teaching, I serve as Olin’s PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports) Leader. In this role, I help support a positive schoolwide system that encourages students and staff to be safe, responsible, and respectful.

I graduated from Clarke University in 2017 with a degree in Elementary Education and endorsements in Special Education and Reading. I continued my education at Clarke and earned my Master’s in Leadership in 2023.

My husband, Dan, and I live on a hog farm in Monticello with our five children—Harrison, Coralee, Arthur, Philomena, and Walter. Our family loves spending time outdoors gardening, collecting walnuts, and playing ball games in the yard. We also enjoy board games, reading together, and movie nights on the weekends. Our kids are active in local programs, including sports and 4H, which keep us happily busy!

Over the years, I’ve truly loved getting to know Olin students and families. My family and I enjoy attending community events and look forward to meeting many more families in the future.
